Brian Williams: Recovering From a Lie and Regaining Trust
Lou Solomon
CEO and Founder
Interact
"Many big media personalities and celebrities reach a choke point, where they cross over from generosity with their power to use of their power. It begins with the subtle act of throwing their weight around. Celebrities who are pulled by the police for speeding or driving drunk ask, 'Do you know who I am?!' Suddenly they are above everyday consequences -- and the door is open for making their own account of an event truer than The Truth. A snowballing lie takes down a man who was a news institution on two feet -- a man among the most trusted in America. To survive this broken trust, NBC News President Deborah Turness has to be strong but defenseless. She cannot explain away or defend the lie told by Brian Williams. She has to personally commit to earning viewers' trust back."
Solomon is a CEO, author and coach who struggled with severe shyness as a child. She didn't speak up for the first 10 years of her life. Her early struggle has been a gift, since she knows that people can learn to make connections and influence others in a positive way. In 2000, Solomon founded Interact, a firm that develops individuals into strong communicators. She is the creator of a curriculum that helps people find their authentic voice and develop "The Influence Factor." She and her team are known for their ability to draw out the authentic style of clients and build upon their strengths. She is a member of the adjunct faculty at the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte, N.C. Her latest research in collaboration with Harris Interactive sheds light on the impact of a virtual environment on employees who work from home. She is also the author of "Say Something Real - Humanizing Communication: Today's Best Business Strategy." Her articles and insights have been published by Fast Company, Entrepreneur.com, CEO.com, the American Management Association, Leadership Essentials, SUCCESS Magazine and more.

Cyber Breaches Unabated Until Private Sector, States Pursue Real-Time Response Capability
Sandor Boyson
Research Professor, Supply Chain Management
University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business
"The Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center signals the federal government recognizes the need to sense and respond to cyber threats on all fronts. But it's crucial for private industry leaders – in addition to state legislators – to pursue a similar real-time response capability. The problem will remain unabated until the states and private sector are forced by federal legislation, legal liabilities, or brand destruction to build out collective and individual threat response, as well as sensible proactive preventative measures. Such measures include keeping valuable intellectual property or system command-and-control mechanisms only on hardened networks or offline entirely to avoid 'wiperware.'"
Boyson codirects UMD's Center for Supply Chain Management and is an appointee to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce's Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness.

Multigenerational Communications: What Companies Need to Know to Succeed
Susan P. Ascher
Business Leadership Strategist
With an unprecedented five generations in the workplace today -- ranging from Millennials to traditionalists (seniors) -- companies have to define what communication style will work for each generation and the organization itself. This is the national challenge for 2015 being reported from standard newspapers. Says Ascher: "Success for today's companies will be determined by aligning and combining each generation's unique communication style. Companies cannot succeed in a world with Millennials texting, Gen-Yers emailing, Baby Boomers telephoning and seniors holding out for face-to-face communication. With Gen Z on the horizon, the communication conundrum needs to be addressed sooner than later, and smart, sophisticated, successful companies are already doing that."
Ascher, a business strategist who helps companies structure their multigenerational communication style to increase their productivity and profitability, can discuss the need for leadership and communication in the new millennium. She is open to television and radio in studio or remote appearances, as well as rearranging her schedule to meet reporters' deadlines. She is the author of two books: "Dude, Seriously, It's Not All About You" (2011) and "Dude, Seriously, Get Your ASK in Gear" (2014). A sought-after national media resource, Ascher has been interviewed on Bloomberg, ABC, NBC, CNBC, News 12 NJ, News 12 NY and My9TV, and is a frequent commentator on TV 8 in Vail, Colo. She presents workshops at universities throughout the country, including Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.; Colorado Mountain College in Edwards, Colo.; William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J.; and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J. She has been published in Forbes magazine, Crain's New York Business, The Star-Ledger, NJBIZ, and New Jersey & Company magazine. She is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Inc. 500, Small Business Person of the Year, and Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year as a four-time finalist. Most recently, she was named a Leading Woman Entrepreneur and Business Owner of New Jersey. She is based in Short Hills, N.J.

Pro Athletes' Spending Habits
Bijan Golkar, CFP
CEO/Senior Advisor
FPC Investment Advisory, Inc.
"Having a pro sports career as long as Derek Jeter or Peyton Manning is extremely rare. The typical NFL player lasts less than three years in the league, and athletes in other sports have only slightly longer careers on average. Yet many athletes spend as though their income will continue forever. Professional athletes are often as bad at handling money as they are good at sports. They spend too much. They make bad investment decisions. They fall prey to fraud. Too often, they end up in worse shape than if they had pursued a more ordinary career."
Based in San Francisco, Golkar has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, Yahoo Finance, The Fiscal Times, Bankrate, MoneyUnder30.com, MainStreet.com, InvestmentNews.com, Physician's Money Digest, and DepositAccounts.com.
