Despite the trips being longer and more painful during the holiday season, and forty percent (40%) of consumers citing Black Friday as the most tiring day of the year, more than half (60%) of consumers plan to shop between three to eight different stores this season to finish buying their gifts. With an average shopping mall being the equivalent of two football fields, it is no surprise that sore feet top the list of the worst physical effects experienced during the holidays, over cold, flu, headaches AND exhaustion—that's a lot of ground to cover, especially on tired toes.
This year, The National Retail Federation estimates that retailers will hire between 720,000 and 780,000 seasonal employees, in addition to the 41,620,604 everyday employees within the U.S; that's at least 84,801,208 feet. Most major retailers in the U.S. are planning on opening their doors earlier than ever this year, meaning more than 24 hours of standing time for both shoppers and sales associates.
The PROFOOT study, commissioned by SSI, revealed that sixty six percent (66%) of consumers will choose comfort over style when it comes to their feet. However, this season, style will not be compromised, as PROFOOT will help bring relief to aching feet by giving consumers the chance to win free products by simply tweeting their holiday shopping stories in 140 characters or less, using the hashtag #HolidayFeet.
