Progressives for Immigration Reform Unveils online database of H1-B Visas for Immigration Activists and Legislators

"Up until now legislators and activists have not had tools that would allow them to quickly and easily amass the information necessary to fully comprehend the depth and breadth of the H-1B Visa Issue," states Kevin Lynn, Executive Director at Progressives For Immigration Reform.  "We want legislative aides and activists to have information they can rely on when speaking with their elected officials at national, state and local levels of government."  

This online database will quickly and efficiently search hundreds of thousands of Department of Labor records and deliver an impressive array of search results free of charge to the user.

For instance, the user can find out the number of H-1B Visa applications in a given locale by searching a state, city, zip code and/or congressional district.  Further, searches of this database will deliver individual as well as aggregate salary information for each application, dates when American citizens will no longer be blocked from holding positions, skill levels, job titles, employers, prevailing wage data, and much more. 

When a search is completed, a summary will be displayed on the web page and a csv data file will be available for download. A user can search for and find the number of H-1B Visa holders in a particular city or conduct searches by zip code and/or even congressional district.

Donna Conroy, Director of Bright Future Jobs advocates, "We have a shortage in the industry all right — a shortage of fair and ethical recruiting and hiring." She states this as part of a group of tech professionals fighting to end what they call "discriminatory hiring that is blocking us ... from competing for jobs we are qualified to do."

In addition to a database demonstration, professionals closely linked to the problematic nature of the H-1B Visa program and how it negatively impacts many American workers will discuss the issue including Donna Conroy of Bright Future Jobs; Dena Moore, formerly a software engineer at Walt Disney and; Jay Palmer, a former principal in the tech outsourcing industry.

Donna Conroy, an IT professional, has worked in education, government and the private sector. Quoted in Businessweek, CIO Magazine, and Computerworld, she has appeared on Dan Rather Reports about the impact of corporate visa programs on high-tech jobs.

Dena Moore who entered the IT field in 1980 did so when it was not popular for women. She sat on the IT Group Board of Directors and has mentored many co-workers. After 10 years at Disney, Dena was required to train an H-1B replacement worker after which she would be fired. Dena has been interviewed by the New York Times, PBS, AP, RT, and Tokyo TV and others in reference to this issue. 

Jay Palmer's work brings to light illegal schemes used by outsourcing companies to unlawfully employ H-1B Visa workers, such as in 2010, when he filed a whistleblower complaint which led to an investigation. For the past 4 years he has been working with DHS, State Department, IRS, and other agencies to educate federal agents on how the illegal operations work from the inside the industry. This has led to several other companies being successfully prosecuted.

Progressives for Immigration Reform exists to protect low-skill, low wage American workers from unemployment and wage suppression caused by unfair labor and trade practices, including importation of large numbers of low wage foreign workers who are subject to exploitation by foreign and domestic corporations working in the United States. At the same time, it seeks to enhance the working conditions of working people worldwide through enhancing economic, health, social, and environmental conditions in the developing countries worldwide.
