Prominent South Florida Plastic Surgeon Harry Moon Supports National Patient Safety Campaign to Investigate Surgeon Qualifications
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fort Lauderdale-based and Board Certified plastic surgeon Harry Moon is supporting a nationwide public service message warning patients to investigate their doctor's qualifications before undergoing plastic surgery procedures.
"Patient safety has to be our first and foremost concern," said Dr. Moon. "As physicians and surgeons we must make every effort to insure the safety and well being of our patients. The fundamental base of medical care is trust and an understanding that the patient always comes first."
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently launched a patient safety public education campaign on the heels of a string of incidents involving plastic surgeries gone wrong during procedures performed by non-board-certified surgeons.
According to the ASPS it is legal in the United States for any doctor with a medical license to practice in any medical field. Only four states—California, Florida, Louisiana and Texas—have tough Truth-in-Advertising measures on the books which require medical providers to be more transparent about their training.
"It is imperative that the patient knows the surgeon's training credentials and experience and that they understand the potential risks and benefits of any procedure as fully as possible," added Dr. Moon, a member of ASPS for more than 20 years.
In his distinguished 25-year career as a physician, researcher and surgeon, Dr. Moon has been recognized by numerous organizations in the medical industry for his commitment to quality patient care and expertise in the area of plastic surgery. Dr. Moon is the former CEO of the Cleveland Clinic Florida, one of the most highly regarded hospitals in the country. In 1993, he entered private practice and created Himmarshee Surgical Partners in Fort Lauderdale.
