Unleashed brings together 20 personal stories, offering an honest look at life, movement, challenge, possibility and community through the voices of the people themselves.
Rather than defining individuals by a device, diagnosis, or moment in their journey, the book creates space for people to tell their stories in their own words and for the broader O&P community to listen.
"Unleashed started with a very simple idea: give people the opportunity to tell their stories and make sure we are listening," said Sharon Gwynn, Manager, Community Impact & Strategic Communications at PROTEOR USA. "But through this process, it became clear that the responsibility goes beyond simply sharing those voices. If we want to truly serve this community, we need to be present in it, learn from it, and create opportunities for people to help shape what comes next."
That philosophy is helping guide the development of PROTEOR's broader Community Impact strategy as the company looks toward 2027 and beyond.
PROTEOR is currently engaging and listening across the O&P ecosystem including individuals with limb loss and limb difference, caregivers, clinicians, rehabilitation professionals, community organizations, and other stakeholders to better understand where meaningful gaps exist and where the company can responsibly contribute.
The goal is not to create programs for the community in isolation, but to identify opportunities to work with the community connecting people, resources, education, experiences, and voices in ways that can create lasting value.
"Our plans for 2027 are intentionally being shaped by what we are hearing now," Gwynn continued. "We have ambitious plans to deepen PROTEOR's presence and participation within the community, but we also recognize that impact starts with listening. We want the people we serve and the professionals and organizations supporting them to have a voice in determining where we can make the greatest difference."
The launch of Unleashed represents an early step in that broader commitment.
For PROTEOR, being Human First means looking beyond products and technology to the people, families, clinicians, and communities surrounding every mobility journey. As the company develops its Community Impact strategy for 2027, that commitment will continue to center on listening, collaboration, connection, and elevating voices throughout the O&P community.
Unleashed: Real Stories of Strength, Independence, and Community will be introduced at the PROTEOR booth (313) during the 2026 AOPA National Assembly in Las Vegas, with additional availability through Amazon and BookBaby online booksellers.
