Providence Principal Awarded Patent for Particulate Matter Measurement System

BATON ROUGE, La., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Providence today announces the receipt of a United States Patent for the Comprehensive Particulate Matter Measurement System (CPMMS) and the Methodology for its Use. Yousheng Zeng, PhD, PE, a principal of Providence, is the inventor of this system. Dr. Zeng explains, "Unlike current methods of monitoring air-borne particulate matter (PM), the CPMMS monitors the portion of PM that can reach and deposit in a human respiratory system." The Providence CPMMS provides more relevant metrics to measure health impact of air quality and eliminates the need to change monitoring equipment every time the U.S. EPA changes PM definitions and standards. This technology has potentially far-reaching implications on a national level and was granted a patent (US Patent # 7,600,441 B2) in 2009. Dr. Zeng began work on the system in 2004, applied for the patent in 2006 and received the final award in late 2009.
