Purdue Pharma L.P. Provides Free Security Mobiles and Educational Safety Videos to Good Neighbor Pharmacy Members
RxPATROL® Program's Latest Efforts to Prevent Pharmacy Crime
STAMFORD, Conn., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing the importance education and awareness play in preventing crime, Purdue Pharma L.P. is providing a free security ceiling mobile and the RxPATROL Pharmacy Safety and Security video to the nationwide network of approximately 3,600 Good Neighbor Pharmacy (GNP) members. The mobile and video were mailed to GNP pharmacies in June.
The mobile features a highly-visible message designed to help ensure the safety and security of pharmacy staff and patients from criminal activity; safeguard the drug supply and prevent diversion; and educate patients and caregivers about the need to keep medications safe and secure at home. The mobile will help pharmacies to clearly communicate to customers and potential thieves that employees are aware of criminal potential and that the pharmacies work with crime prevention professionals in the community.
"Good Neighbor Pharmacy welcomes the collaboration with Purdue's RxPATROL program to protect pharmacies and their customers," said Jerry Cline, senior vice president, Retail Sales and Marketing, AmerisourceBergen. "By displaying the mobile and training their staff with the video, pharmacists can help ensure that safety is a priority."
Purdue Pharma also has partnered to produce and distribute the "RxPATROL Pharmacy Safety and Security" video to help educate pharmacists and pharmacy staff about preventing pharmacy crime. RxPATROL coordinator, Captain Richard Conklin of the Stamford, CT Police Department, and GNP Regional Advisor Dr. Richard Logan, Pharm D., discuss low-cost measures pharmacy owners can take to make their businesses a harder target as well as how to assist law enforcement in catching criminals. Captain Conklin introduces viewers to Purdue Pharma's RxPATROL program, a free online database that tracks, analyzes and provides information on pharmacy crime to law enforcement and pharmacies.
"Purdue encourages pharmacists and pharmacy staff to register with RxPATROL to learn more about how to protect themselves from pharmacy crime," said Richard Zenuch, Director, Law Enforcement Liaison and Education at Purdue. "The more pharmacists using the RxPATROL system, the more effective the system will be in helping law enforcement and the pharmacy community combat pharmacy theft."
RxPATROL is a national database that tracks, analyzes and provides information on pharmacy crime to law enforcement and pharmacies. Created in May 2003 with funding from Purdue Pharma L.P., information from RxPATROL is helping law enforcement solve crimes while teaching pharmacy owners how to protect their businesses and customers. RxPATROL partners with Crime Stoppers and other community anti-crime programs to offer rewards for information leading to arrests for pharmacy crime. Tips can be made anonymously and have led to more than 100 arrests since the program's inception. To learn more about RxPATROL's and to view the video, visit www.rxpatrol.com.
