TORONTO, June 29, 2015 /CNW/ - Purolator has delivered 228,352 pounds of food to food banks across Canada as part of its Purolator Tackle Hunger® Week campaign. From June 1 to 5, Purolator employees, partners, agents and customers held events across the country to raise food and cash donations for food banks in their communities.
"The kindness of Canadians has once again been clearly demonstrated. The 228,352 pounds of food raised during PTH Week come at a critical time. The summer months are when food banks are most challenged to secure the donations they need," said Patrick Nangle, President and CEO, Purolator. "Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2015 PTH Week campaign and helped make a difference in the lives of the hundreds of thousands of Canadians in need of food."
Purolator also encouraged Canadians to help raise awareness of hunger in Canada during PTH Week on Facebook and Twitter. For every new "Like" of Purolator's Facebook page, "Like/Share" of its Purolator Tackle Hunger Facebook posts or use of #TackleHunger on Twitter, Purolator donated one pound of food to food banks across Canada. Through this initiative, Purolator raised 9,913 pounds of food, which counted toward the week's total.
Purolator also partnered with the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation as part of its JUST GIVE Five Days of Giving campaign in Toronto. On June 3, Purolator employees, along with Toronto Police and Michael "Pinball" Clemons and his team, participated in the JUST GIVE Cram-a-Cruiser Challenge, picking up food donations from local elementary schools and delivering them to the Daily Bread Food Bank. By the end of the day, 9,336 pounds of food were donated in support of PTH Week.
Canadians can continue to give year-round and keep the Purolator Tackle Hunger movement going by making a donation online at purolatortacklehunger.com or at one of Purolator's Game Day Food Drives at select Canadian Football League games and other sporting events this summer and fall.
Purolator is committed to tackling hunger in Canada and making a positive difference in the communities it services. Since its inception, PTH Week alone has collected the equivalent of more than two million pounds of food to local food banks across Canada.
