"Gary is a scholar and practitioner in the fundraising profession," notes Kristina Carlson, CFRE, president of Pursuant Ketchum. "In the course of his career, he has helped raise $150 million for nonprofit organizations in the U.S. He brings unparalleled experience and wisdom that will benefit the healthcare providers who engage our philanthropic services."
Before joining Pursuant Ketchum, Cole was vice president of development for Cook Children's Health Foundation in Fort Worth, Texas, where he oversaw assets in excess of $600 million. During his tenure, he secured the largest gifts the foundation had ever received, raised the highest fundraising revenue in the history of the foundation, and coordinated a capital campaign that supported the healthcare system's largest capital expansion. In addition to also increasing donor engagement, Cole improved operations, resulting in dramatically reduced expenses for the organization.
Prior to his role at Cook Children's, Cole was vice president of development for the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas, where he led annual giving, major and planned giving, special events and constituent relations. While at UT Arlington, Cole increased philanthropic donations from $4.9 million to $15 million within three years.
"I have dedicated my entire career to nonprofit organizations and the generous donors who support them," says Cole. "The staff and leadership at The Pursuant Group share my passion for this meaningful work, and I look forward to presenting and developing our services to the healthcare sector."
Cole has presented at numerous conferences on leadership, planned giving, capital campaign strategies and other fundraising topics. He is a member of several industry associations, including the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the National Committee on Planned Giving.
Cole received a bachelor's degree in technical communications from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, a master's in philanthropy and development from St. Mary's University of Minnesota in Winona, Minn., and a doctorate in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He is also a certified fundraising executive (CFRE) and a past recipient of the Ben Franklin Award for Outstanding Professional Fundraising Executive.
