PALM HARBOR, Fla., March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Valspar is encouraging golf fans at this week's Valspar Championship to "putt it forward" in its Putt for Habitat Challenge to raise up to $15,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County. For every putt made, the Valspar Foundation will donate $5. As Habitat's national paint partner, Valspar has provided Habitat Pinellas with over 13,000 gallons of paint.
"To date, Habitat Pinellas has completed 350 safe, affordable homes, and we appreciate Valspar's support and efforts to engage more people in the community with our mission," said Mike Sutton, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County. "Whether it's donated paint, volunteers or financial contributions, Valspar's generous support helps families in our community achieve what they thought was just a dream."
Fans will find Valspar's Putt for Habitat Challenge in the Valspar Color Experience Expo tent behind the 18th green at the Innisbrook Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Fla., the site of the Valspar Championship, March 10 -13, 2016.
"Valspar is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope," said Kimberly Welch, Valspar vice president of Communications and chair of the Valspar Foundation. "Through new home builds that provide families an affordable home of their own and the 'A Brush with Kindness' program that provides a new coat of paint on existing homes, together Valspar and Habitat Pinellas are making a difference for those in need."
About Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County:
Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County has constructed 350 homes for limited-income families in Pinellas County, using locally raised funds. Volunteers and the future homeowners construct the homes, which are sold at no profit and financed with a zero-interest loan. Habitat Pinellas homeowner candidates earn 30 to 80 percent of area median income. For Pinellas County, that translates to as little as $27,000 a year for a family of four. Candidates must also demonstrate need for adequate shelter, ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and willingness to partner with Habitat Pinellas to invest 250 to 350 sweat equity hours. Mortgage monies are used to build even more homes, making each donation to Habitat a perpetual legacy to the community. Habitat believes that home ownership contributes to family stability, leading in turn to community stability. Additionally, Habitat Pinellas raises funds through their ReStore, a home improvement outlet located in Clearwater and Palm Harbor where donated household and building items are sold to the public.
