Qihoo 360 Will Set Up an R & D Center in Chengdu in 2012

CHENGDU, China, Dec. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- On December 12, 2011, Zhou Hongyi, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qihoo attended the Second China Original Web Game Summit jointly organized by Chengdu Tianfu Software Park held in Chengdu. During the conference Mr. Zhou pointed out that web gaming has gone through high-speed development in recent years. In the just-released Qihoo 360 financial report, the revenue from web games accounted for nearly 30% of the company's total revenue. In the future, Qihoo 360 will continue to increase investment in the web game platform. Currently, in its game platform, 80 web games are in operation. Next year, the company's game platform will provide an income sharing mechanism and server bandwidth support. The company's game platform has been published, providing game makers an easy platform for check-in.

Web gaming is a micro innovation, its makers grass-roots entrepreneurs

Zhou Hongyi said that web gaming is a very good micro innovation in the game industry. In the past, game players had to download a large client. During the process of downloading, a lot of users would become lost because they needed to wait for a long time before they could play the game. But web games don't require users to go through this tedious downloading process. Users can play these games directly on the web page. This meets the needs of users therefore web gaming has developed at a fast pace. According to Mr. Zhou, in the future, games will all be web-based. 

Zhou Hongyi summed up the three features of web games. First: grass-roots. Web game makers all come from grass-roots entrepreneurships; other large client-based game manufacturers had neglected web games at the beginning. Although, as web games have low development cost and a short development cycle, this gave grass-roots entrepreneurs a chance to create a business. Second: generation. Most entrepreneurs in the web games industry were born after 1980 to 1985. They are vibrant and understand today's users' needs. Third: fast growth. A lot of web game companies with a monthly income of more than 10 million yuan were set up less than 2 years ago. Web games bring about new opportunities to grass-roots entrepreneurs.

Qihoo 360 will set up an R & D center in Chengdu next year

During the conference, Zhou Hongyi expressed his love and recognition for Chengdu. He thought that software developers in Chengdu are both smart and experts at technology, and the city has a very good environment, having low operating costs, and most importantly, the good air quality. In the future, mobile games and web game markets will have significant development in Chengdu. Qihoo 360 has acquired a number of projects in Chengdu. For example, Master Lu, a leading system tool in China, also a subsidiary of Qihoo 360, is located in Chengdu. It is expected that next year, Qihoo 360 will set up an R&D base in Chengdu on the basis of Master Lu's R & D team.
