Raleigh Divorce and Family Lawyer Stephanie Jenkins Achieves Prestigious Certification in Family Law
Gailor, Wallis & Hunt partner joins elite group of board-certified family lawyers in North Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Raleigh divorce and family lawyers of Gailor, Wallis & Hunt are pleased to announce that partner Stephanie Jenkins has been certified as a specialist in family law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. The certification -- which is held by only a small minority of the state's family law attorneys -- is a prestigious honor that underscores the talent and success that Stephanie has brought to the firm and its clients.
"Board certification is reserved for the best of the best in a practice area, requiring lawyers to pass a rigorous exam and be favorably reviewed by their peers," says Carol Gailor, managing partner of Gailor, Wallis & Hunt. "We are thrilled to see Stephanie achieve this important, distinguished plateau in her career -- and in a particularly stellar year, in which she also won a record-setting $30 million verdict in an alienation of affections lawsuit, the largest such award in North Carolina history."
Stephanie -- who has been selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2010, 2011, and 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for family law, and also selected as a Super Lawyer for 2012 -- has an unique background that has helped to make her one of North Carolina's most innovative and sought-after domestic relations and family lawyers. Prior to joining the firm, she spent six years as an assistant district attorney in Raleigh, and was the first prosecutor in Wake County's pioneering Criminal Domestic Violence Court. She was also a lead prosecutor for the Dangerous Offenders Task Force.
At Gailor, Wallis & Hunt, Stephanie has leveraged her extensive trial work with the District Attorney's office in advocating for clients in civil court domestic violence cases, custody matters, and many other areas of family and divorce law. Her prosecutorial background has been invaluable in bolstering the firm's ability to represent clients in family law criminal matters, such as cases involving accusations of abuse or neglect.
The Board of Legal Specialization was created in 1983 by the North Carolina State Bar, and began certifying North Carolina lawyers as legal specialists in 1987. The goals of certification are twofold: to help the public identify lawyers who have demonstrated particular skill and knowledge in a practice area; and to encourage lawyers to develop that proficiency.
In addition to the examination and peer review requirements, lawyers must have dedicated a majority of their practice to family law for at least five consecutive years before they can be certified as specialists in the area. In addition to Stephanie, only 11 other North Carolina attorneys were certified in family law in 2011.
