DENVER, Sept. 7, 2018 Apollo Flight Labs, the world's leading jetpack demonstration team, is auctioning off extra flying machines from their R&D center in Denver, Colorado; namely one Turbine (jet engine-powered) JetPack, and the prototype Apollo JetBike—the world's first jet engine-powered flying motorcycle. These are not replicas or models; they are authentic, fully operational flying machines.
"We have too many flying machines a surge in interest from flight enthusiasts wanting to make a purchase, so we are clearing out some machines by selling them to the highest bidder on eBay," said Troy Widgery, CEO "For years, people have asked, 'Where's my JetPack?' We are ready to deliver."
Apollo Flight Labs is a sister company to Apollo Energy Gum under the same ownership. Teaser social media videos posted this past week have already recorded more than 3 million views. The auction is scheduled to run through September 16th, 2018.
"The energy gum market is exploding, and we are diverting some of our R&D efforts away from flying machines and into the Apollo Gum Company Factory in order to capitalize on our rapidly-growing market potential," stated Widgery. Apollo Gum Company, also located in Denver, is the producer of Apollo Energy Gum, Golf Gum, Fly Gum, and FIRST Energy Gum, marketed in Holland.
The two machines being auctioned are state-of-the art, and incorporate small jet engines to provide the lift required for flight. The listings come with significant disclaimers and a full release of liability will be required prior to delivery, despite the auctions including "training camps" for both machines.
"We have been performing JetPack shows for events around the world for 11 years, over 1,000 flights, and are aware of the risks involved with piloting these machines," cautions C.O.O. Boyd Wilkinson. "We will provide the buyer of each machine and up to two of their friends with a series of familiarization flights on our training systems. Only a handful of people in the world have ever flown a JetPack or JetBike, let alone been the owner of one."
Apollo lists the retail sales price of its Turbine JetPack at $179,000, and the JetBike at $299,000 USD, but these are true, no-reserve auctions. Apollo partnered with eBay For Charity to designate a portion of the auction proceeds to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The potential buyer for these machines ranges from corporations that will benefit from the publicity and branding of the JetBike or Turbine JetPack, to executives looking for the ultimate in-office conversation starter. "Either machine could also end up serving as extreme décor in a corporate lobby or a man cave," stated Wilkinson.
