"Realistic" Doll Brand Promotes Positive Body Image To Build Confidence & Self-Esteem
Beautiful Blessings aims to realign unrealistic beauty standards set by leading doll brands, begins production of new collection.
BRAINTREE, Mass., Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Beautiful Blessings announced today the production of a new fashion doll line that seeks to more accurately reflect the average female and empower girls to embrace a more positive and realistic body image.
The New England-based startup hopes to inspire greater confidence and self-esteem among young girls with doll designs that encourage them to embrace inner beauty and celebrate diversity.
"So many girls are exposed at a very early age to dolls with exaggerated body proportions that skew their perception of what a girl or woman's body should look like. It's this type of impossible image attainability that girls have long felt pressured to live up to," said Founder Raveen James. "Beautiful Blessings was created with the simple goal of teaching children that beauty starts from the inside and that dignity, respect, virtue, and integrity are the attributes that distinguish true beauty."
The company plans to release a collection that includes 15 different dolls of diverse ethnicities and designed with a curvier, fuller figure more representative of typical female proportions. Each doll comes with a motivational message teaching children to inform their sense of personal value and their aspirations based on their talents and individuality, rather than impeccable physicality.
Featuring a rhinestone and pearl-clad white suit and hat and white bow-adorned shoes, the Virtuous Lady, the company's debut doll, is an African-American doll characterized as an embodiment of confidence, intelligence, and ambition. The design is meant to accentuate a self-affirming image, positive attitude, and warm spirit to remind children to strive to be the best version of themselves.
In addition to their doll line, Beautiful Blessings will also offer a selection of over 20 tasteful fashion accessories and clothes intended to evoke an air of elegance and grace. Initial add-ons include a pink and white polka dot romper with pink and white espadrilles shoes and a blue, sleeveless maxi dress and many more.
Beautiful Blessings hopes to directly address many parents' concerns about a lack of diversity and positive body imagery within an industry that has been criticized for contributing to feelings of inadequacy among young girls -- citing statistics that claim that four out of five 10-year-olds fear being overweight and 42% of girls in first through third grade wish they were thinner. This is not just a doll collection; it is a movement for all children and women.
The Beautiful Blessings doll line is set to begin production January 2017. The company has launched a presale campaign in anticipation of their pending product launch.
The team is also seeking partnerships with Breast Cancer and Children's Organizations.
When asked what excited her most about her company's upcoming release, James said, "Beautiful Blessings represents a valuable opportunity to help young girls feel comfortable and proud in their own skin and to love themselves. We believe that greatly impacts their transition into adulthood. If we can facilitate that through a product that champions self-worth over materialism or an impractical body image, then we'll consider that a great success."
