Reason Software Acquires Rights to Unchecky
The Unchecky anti-bundleware solution joins Reason Core Security to form the most comprehensive anti-malware program on the market
NEW YORK, April 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Reason Software Company announced today the incorporation of Unchecky, the popular software program that protects computers from potentially unwanted bundleware offers from software installers, into its new product, Reason Core Security.
Unchecky helps PC users only download and install software that they have actively chosen to install, and avoid potentially unwanted software programs and adware from sneaking in.
Freeware download sites often include unwanted software called "crapware" in the installation process of legitimate programs, which may include toolbar add-ons, browser search hijackers and ad-injectors. These offers are usually presented with checkboxes the user must uncheck in order to not receive the bundled crapware. By default these opt-in checkboxes are ticked by the distributor, giving permission for the bundleware to be automatically and often unknowingly downloaded. Unchecky automatically overrides the default setting by "unchecking" such bundled offers. In doing so, Unchecky enables users to get the software they want, without the crapware they don't want.
Unchecky is a natural complement to Reason Software Company's PC protection offerings that also include herdProtect, a malware removal platform and Should I Remove It? which helps users identify and remove crapware and adware. Reason Software Company has been providing award-winning and simple to use computer protection tools since 2012.
Unchecky's creator Michael Maltsev commented, "Reason has a vision similar to Unchecky, which aims to protect users from potentially unwanted programs and offers… (Unchecky) will become part of a great product that will provide a comprehensive solution to the problem of malware."
Andrew Newman, CEO and founder of Reason Software Company, added, "We are very excited to add Unchecky to our offering. Unchecky's unique ability to stop crapware from being installed, coupled with Reason's capacity to detect malware and adware threats that traditional AV products miss, will significantly help protect our customers from the growing trends in bundleware."
