Recent Article on Drillingcontractor.org Highlights the Success of Maintenance Program Incorporating Bypass Filtration Technology & Oil Analysis

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Puradyn Filter Technologies Incorporated (OTCQB: PFTI) announced today that Nabors Drilling International Ltd (NDIL), a subsidiary of Nabors Industries, confirmed savings in excess of $5 million annually in operations costs through implementation of bypass filtration technology and oil analysis.

An article published on Drillingcontractor.org discussed the advantages of Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM).  This concept is embraced by NDIL and endorses the use of technology to constantly monitor systems and fluids to determine when maintenance is required, therefore optimizing equipment and maintenance efficiency.  

Nabors Drilling International Ltd (NDIL) was an early advocate of CBM on its 130+ land and 24 offshore platform rigs in 24 countries and two of the advanced technologies implements in its CBM program adopted in 2009 were bypass oil filtration and oil analysis.

The article, co-authored by Siegfried Meissner, President, NDIL, and Kevin Kroger, President/COO, Puradyn, discusses the advantages of CBM, and more specifically, use of the puraDYN^® System, bypass filtration technology supplied by Puradyn.  The System cleans engine oil of solid, liquid, and gaseous contaminants, replaces base additives and maintains oil viscosity to such a state that the engine is running on continuously clean oil, allowing oil change intervals to be safely extended by significant time periods. 

Through oil analysis, a process by which a small amount of oil is tapped from the running engine in order to analyze the oil for a number of possible conditions including contaminant abrasion, viscosity, and overall health of the oil, the results will indicate to maintenance personnel that the oil needs to be changed or, if analysis returns the message, 'oil is good for continued use', the engine oil will not need to be changed.

In the case of NDIL, drain intervals on equipment were extended from 500 hours to 2,500 hours, "regardless of low or high-sulfur fuel content...", and Puradyn's largest model, the TF-240, which will micro-filter oil sump capacities up to 85 gallons (322 liters) is being used.  The reduction in oil drains has reduced waste oil disposal by over 373,000 gallons.

Since 2010, Nabors Drilling USA (NDUSA) installed more than 700 puraDYN^® Systems, and to date, have extended oil drain intervals from 1,000 hours to over 3,000 hours.

According to Mr. Kroger, "Direct savings from reducing the amount of new oil purchases when using bypass oil filtration technology are significant, but when you factor in the indirect costs of not having to transport or store new oil, especially in remote locations where this type of equipment is usually operating, the cost associated with hauling away and disposing of waste oil, and the extended life of the equipment from running on continuously clean oil, the savings keep adding up.

In the case of NDIL alone, the savings have added up to an annual savings of over $5 million."
