Redskins & Cowboys Take To The Lanes For The 1st Annual NFL Bowl-a-thon Benefitting Skyler's Gift
WASHINGTON, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stephan Bowen — Captain of the Washington Redskins – and his wife Tiffany -- are proud to announce that the NFL is coming together to support Skyler's Gift Foundation's inaugural fundraiser.
The "Redskins vs. Cowboys Bowl-a-thon" will be held at Lucky Strike in Washington, DC, Saturday, May 4th at 6:00 pm. The event will feature bowling with NFL lane captains, billiards, open bar and food. There will also be a silent auction.
It's a chance for football fans to meet, greet and bowl with their favorite NFL players while supporting Skyler's Gift Foundation. To date several NFL players have agreed to serve as lane captains. Bowen will be joined by his Washington Redskins teammates including Barry Cofield, Trent Williams, Brian Orakpo, Jarvis Jenkins and Doug Worthington. From the Dallas Cowboys, Demarcus Ware, Jason Hatcher, Miles Austin and Derrick Dockery will also be attending.
Skyler's Gift was founded in 2012 to honor the memory of Tiffany and Stephan's son Skyler Bowen, who passed away from complications of prematurity in 2011. Motivated by their loss, Tiffany and Stephen created Skyler's Gift to provide financial support to needy families that have lost premature babies. They believe no one should have to face this loss alone and everyone should be able to bury or honor their lost child despite their lack of resources.
"Losing an infant to complications from premature birth is more common than most people realize. This is an issue that could touch the life of anyone you know, " said Tiffany Bowen, "You think the worst thing in the world is to lose a child. The worst thing in the world is to lose a child and not have the money to bury your child or provide mortuary services."
"People don't think that things like this happen to professional athletes or people with money," says Stephen Bowen. "This tragedy has no prejudice. It can happen to anyone no matter how much prenatal care the mother receives. I hope football fans will rally around this important cause and bowl with me on May 4th or make a donation on our website."
