Conference to Help Small Businesses Compete for $2.5 Billion in Grants

NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Business professionals across the country are invited to register now for the 2011 National SBIR/STTR Fall Conference. The event is being hosted by the Louisiana Technology Council and Louisiana Economic Development partners in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 6 - 9, 2011. The conference will help small businesses learn how to compete for SBIR/STTR grants and contracts, which amount to approximately $2.5 billion in funding annually.

SBIR is a competitive federal government grant program that funds small businesses in developing innovative, high-risk technologies with the goal of increasing private sector commercialization into the marketplace. SBIR is a highly specialized form of funding for small firms to perform cutting-edge research and development that addresses the nation's most critical scientific, engineering and technology needs.

Enacted by Congress in 1982, there are 11 federal agencies that have R&D budgets of $100 million or more. Each agency is required by statue to set-aside 2.5% of these funds to SBIR/STTR incentives, creating a great opportunity for small and innovative businesses to apply for these funds.
