Registration Open: Two Virtual Summer Challenges for Jewish Students

DENVER, May 27, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- With the school year ending, synagogue attendance restricted, and the status of sleep-away camps uncertain, Summer 2020 has the potential to be long and boring for Jewish school children.

Fortunately, EdJewCorp is hosting two great summer online competitions for middle and high school students: a Jewish history tournament, and a stock-picking challenge focused on publicly traded Israeli companies. Both contests are free.

The EdJewCorp Jewish History Tournament will be a recurring, summer-long, video conference-based game that tests the knowledge of students in North America and abroad in biblical, medieval, and modern Jewish history. The inaugural challenge begins on Sunday, June 14th, at noon EDT.

A second game, The Richtol Exchange, is a stock-picking challenge, in which students learn about the modern Israeli economy and the stock market by creating a model portfolio of Israeli stocks (no real money is invested) and then watching their holdings grow or shrink over the course of several months.

Students who enroll in The Richtol Exchange now will receive video tutorials and instructions over the summer, awaiting the official start of the challenge in the new school year.

Both contests are also open to the parents of participating students (although parents are ineligible to win).

"These are fun opportunities for young people to learn and practice history and economics, especially during the summer-slide months," says Maxwell Rotbart, founder and CEO of EdJewCorp, who administers the challenges.

Rotbart is a licensed social studies teacher in Colorado and an alumnus of Jewish day schools. Competing against more than 100 challengers, he recently won a national U.S. History trivia competition, organized by History Camp and LearningPlunge.

Rotbart is the author of "The State of Israel: Prime Ministers," published in 2017.

The Richtol Exchange held its first challenge in Spring 2016. Commonly referred to as "Richex," the contest is named in memory of Donald Manuel Richtol z'l of Seal Beach, California, and in honor of his wife, Barbara.
