Remy International, Inc. Forms New Business Unit to Further Target EV/HEV Markets and Names Business Leader

PENDLETON, Ind., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Remy International, Inc. today announced the  launch of a new business unit that will accelerate its efforts to provide high-output electric drive motors for the emerging markets of electric and hybrid-electric vehicles and equipment. Remy International's Kevin Quinn will lead the newly formed business unit, Remy Electric Motor Technologies.

Prior to joining Remy, Quinn was Owner and Managing Director of Power Technology Ventures, a business development firm specializing in emerging power technologies.  His work experience also includes more than 20 years of leadership roles with several Fortune 50 companies, including Allied Signal/Honeywell, DuPont and G.E.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois and earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Last October, Remy International introduced an advanced electric motor for hybrid and hybrid-electric vehicles. This innovative product, the HVH250, is based on Remy's patented High Voltage Hairpin technology and offers the highest power and torque density on the market today.  It is the first in a series of new off-the-shelf products planned by Remy for the automotive, truck, bus and heavy equipment markets.

The HVH motor platform exceeds not only the current DOE targets for electric motor power density, but Remy's platform already exceeds published 2020 DOE targets for power density by 200 percent.

With multiple manufacturing sites in North America and Europe, Remy has the capacity to produce more than 100,000 of these electric motors annually.  Remy's expansion of this product line is being funded in part by recent Department of Energy grants aimed at accelerating the commercialization of next generation electric vehicle technologies. Some of the grant funds will also be available to support customer costs associated with the integration of the motor/generator system.
