WASHINGTON, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Muslim American Citizens Coalition & Public Affairs Council (MACCPAC), a non-profit civic affairs organization based in metro-D.C., will be hosting its first annual civic engagement conference, "Muslims in the U.S.: Helping America Meet the Challenges of the 21st Century" on Thursday, March 29, 2012 on Capitol Hill.
Designed to help American Muslims understand their rights and duties as Americans, the conference panelists will discuss the role of local politics in creating change and the role of Muslim women in nation-building, among other things.
Among its attendees will be Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Al Green (D-TX) as well as representatives from the Dept. of Justice, State Dept., and the Department of Homeland Security and leaders from the American Muslim community.
"This conference is critical to introduce American political and civic leaders to Muslim leaders from communities from coast-to-coast, and help those community members learn how to more effectively allay the concerns of all Americans," said MACCPAC National Director Aktar Hossain.
"Given the global economic and political challenges that America faces, we need to pull together as a nation to maximize the use of all our resources - especially our human capital," added MACCPAC advisor and retired senior U.S. Diplomat Robert Marro.
