Resolution Health Develops 25 National Quality Forum Endorsed Measures To Improve Ease of Gathering Quality Information

COLUMBIA, Md., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Resolution Health, Inc.,(RHI) an industry-leading personal health care guidance company and subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc., developed 25 of the 70 measures recently endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF). The measures endorsed by NQF encourage the use of electronic data to measure, report and improve the delivery of health care across the U.S.

NQF reviewed more than 200 measures, all of which are currently used by private health plans, to assess physician performance. The 70 endorsed measures employ two or more types of common electronic data such as medical and prescription drug claims, and laboratory test results. Based on the experience of RHI's board certified staff physicians and information from RHI's Physician Quality Profiler, which applies more than 100 quality of care measures to describe the performance of individual physicians and physician groups, RHI developed measures for nine of the 16 conditions for which NQF endorsed measures including bone and joint conditions, cardiovascular disease, cancer screening, medication management and prenatal care.

NQF is a voluntary consensus standards-setting organization with the goal of improving the quality of health care in the U.S. by setting national priorities and goals for performance improvement, endorsing national consensus standards for measuring and publicly reporting on performance, and promoting the attainment of national goals through education and outreach programs. It is anticipated that NQF-endorsement of these measures will result in increased alignment of measures used by health plans, consequently reducing the burden on providers and creating greater consistency and understanding of performance information.
