Resurrection University is First in Illinois to Offer Master of Science in Nursing in Executive Format
ResU launches new program for career-driven nurses in January
CHICAGO, Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The College of Nursing at Resurrection University is launching a new master's level degree format for the nurse aspiring to be in management and leadership (for a variety of community and acute care settings), one that can be completed outside working hours and within 20 months.
Launching in January, this new Master of Science degree (Nurse Administrator) allows nurses to attend classes on the University's campus in Chicago for one weekend every three weeks for 20 months, perfect for the working nurse on the fast track to leadership.
Resurrection University (ResU) is the first in Illinois, and possibly the Midwest, to offer a nursing master's degree in this exceptional format. Graduate students will meet Friday evenings, all day Saturday and a half-day on some Sundays. The inaugural class, which is a cohort model in which all the students start and end the program together, is expected to be 10 students and the curriculum will cover skills such as human resources, finance, health policy and advanced leadership. Courses are taught by experts in the field including Vice Presidents and Chief Nursing Officers.
The knowledge and skills gained in a Master of Science degree (Nurse Administrator) are meant to provide today's nurses with more confidence and a broader vision of the vital role of nursing in the complex and ever-changing health care field. After the program, students may be qualified to apply for positions such as Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing.
"We are proud to be the first to offer this unique format to nurse leaders and aspiring nurse leaders," said Chief Academic Officer Sandie Soldwisch, PhD, APN, ANP-BC. "It's for the nurse that wants to help shape the future of healthcare, one who is determined, ambitious, and motivated to lead and manage."
