Retired And Active-duty Military Leaders To Discuss Future Of Soldier Equipment At AUSA
The Warrior Protection and Readiness Coalition (WPRC) Soldiers First panel will provide a view of the current state of soldier equipment and the future needs of the warfighter
WASHINGTON, Oct. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Warrior Protection and Readiness Coalition (WPRC) today announced that it is holding a panel of retired and active-duty military leaders during AUSA to discuss soldier equipment and related topics such as warfighter needs, the state of the industrial base, collaboration, and procurement reform. The WPRC Soldiers First panel will take place on Monday, October 22nd, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center, Room 150B, and is sponsored by WPRC member companies DuPont, BAE and ADS, among others.
"There has been tremendous progress made in the last decade ensuring our brave service members are equipped for maximum protection and effectiveness," said Craig Heilman, executive director, WPRC. "As resources decline, the voice of our warfighters reminds us that industry, the Department of Defense (DOD), and elected officials must continue to collaborate to guarantee that superior performing equipment is readily available no matter when and where our military is called on to protect us. We must put soldiers first as defense budgets decline."
The panel is a first step towards defining initiatives for 2013 that will improve the industry's ability to deliver innovation, capacity and efficiency in this sector. The critical areas that the panel will address regarding appropriate soldier equipment have been identified as: warfighter needs, the industrial base, collaboration, and procurement. The panel will discuss a number of questions, including: What lessons have we learned from current conflicts? What are the trade-offs in soldier equipment between capability, weight, cost, and availability? Where does innovation come from in the industrial base? What policies exist to support the base and have they worked? What role does the DOD play in R&D for the soldier? How can we incentivize collaboration? Are procurement practices for this sector effective? How can new requirements and innovations be inserted into sustainment purchases?
