RGF Environmental HVAC Products Attack Airborne Bacteria Responsible For Pathogenic Contaminants Such As Legionnaires' Disease
RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., Aug. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- While public health officials continue to respond to the largest outbreak of the deadly Legionnaires' disease in New York City's history, a South Florida environmental systems manufacturer says its HVAC safety technologies have proven to kill the legionella bacteria, the contaminant which recently resulted in a death toll of 12 in the Bronx.
RGF Environmental Group, headquartered in Riviera Beach, said a recent study conducted by Kansas State University shows a 99%+ kill rate of legionella when treated by RGF's Pan Saver®. Legionnaires' disease is a type of pneumonia caused by bacteria, usually contracted from breathing a mist from water that contains the legionella bacterium. The first outbreak occurred in 1976 during an American Legion convention in Philadelphia. Among the 2000 attendees, 221 contracted the disease and 34 died. According to a report from the CDC, legionella outbreaks have increased by 217% between 2001 and 2009, and the EPA ranks indoor air pollutants amongst the five highest environmental risks to public health.
