IRVINE, Calif., March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhema Law Group, P.C. ("Rhema Law"), an intellectual property & business law firm, announced on February 23, 2015 that the California Court of Appeals affirmed its previous jury trial victory, in favor of its client, Greenlight Financial ("Greenlight"), against Internet Brands, Inc.
"In upholding the jury's verdict, the Appeals Court provided further validation of Internet Brands' clear breach of contract. This signals that even large companies like Internet Brands, must honor their promises and perform under the terms of a contract," said Greenlight's attorney, Rhema Law partner John D. Tran, who served as one of the lead counsel on the matter.
Joann Pham, former CEO of Greenlight added, "We are very pleased with the outcome and the work done by John Tran, Rosalind Ong and their team at the Rhema Law. Above all, this case was about principles and that we are glad that the Jury and Court held Internet Brands accountable for their actions."
In March 2012, Rhema Law filed a complaint against Internet Brands, Inc. alleging breach of contract and related unfair competition claims associated to a prior agreement between the parties involving the "Greenlight" trademark and greenlight.com domain. Among other things, the complaint alleged that Internet Brands' modified an agreed upon version of the Greenlight.com website without permission, and intentionally diverted internet leads from Greenlight to other Internet Brands' affiliated sites.
The matter was tried to a jury over six days culminating in a jury verdict on April 11, 2013 in the amount of $750,000.00 in favor of Greenlight. The Superior Court also granted Greenlight request for attorney's fees, costs and interest, bringing the total award to over $1 Million. Greenlight expects to also recover its attorneys' fees and costs on appeal as well.
The Appeal was heard November 17, 2014 before a three-judge panel of the California Court of Appeals for the 4th district. Internet Brands argued that the judgment should be overturned based upon a variety of theories. The California Appeals court, however, rejected Internet Brands' arguments and unanimously affirmed the trial court's judgment.
