Ricardo Salinas Encourages Youth to Take on Leadership Roles in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Grupo Salinas, a group of dynamic, fast-growing and technologically advanced companies deeply committed to the modernization of the countries in which they operate—announced that its President and Founder, Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego, presented a keynote address on positive action leadership to students and academics of the Universidad del Mayab in the city of Merida, Yucatan.

Ricardo Salinas suggested that Mexico should be an economic power, in order to offer increased social wellbeing. To achieve that, it is necessary to develop a competitive economy, with a responsible government —that provides security, freedom, education, rule of law and infrastructure. He mentioned that companies are currently transforming into institutions that go beyond wealth creation and drive social change to improve living standards.

In order to accomplish this, he added that it is necessary to have social and political leadership with the competencies that can lead to success. This is the foundation of Kybernus, an initiative that seeks to develop leaders to act with vision, capacity, transparency and responsibility, for the benefit of communities throughout the country.

During his conference, Mr. Salinas said that social value is not limited to philanthropy, but also includes actions to improve the material, intellectual and social conditions of society through four strategies that Grupo Salinas currently implements. The first one is to address human basic needs such as education and health, through Fundacion Azteca; the second one, is to minimize the impact of the value chain of the Group, by  saving natural resources during the productive process; the third one is to improve the business environment through forums of analysis, like Proyecto 40, Caminos de la Libertad, La Ciudad de las Ideas, and Kybernus —that promote the development of leaders— and finally, the Group offers products and services that increase living standards for consumers at the bottom of the socioeconomic pyramid.

The address was followed by a dynamic question and answer session, as well as recognition  by Universidad del Mayab President José Maria Sabin on behalf of the university.
