Rising Needs of Aging Prompt Senior Living Community Expansion
Second phase of $18 million project complete
MADISON, Wis., April 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With Wisconsin's senior population soaring and dementia on the rise, a local senior living community has invested $18 million to meet the growing need. Brookdale Madison West will add a new building with extensive amenities and capacity to accommodate more than 100 seniors. It will also open two dementia care programs, including one designed to slow the disease's progression in its early stages. The community is located at 413 S. Yellowstone Drive, Madison.
People aged 60 and better will represent 26 percent of the state's population in 2030 compared to just 19 percent in 2012, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Alzheimer's Association projects the number of Wisconsin residents 65 and over with dementia will increase 18 percent in the coming decade.
Brookdale Madison West, formerly known as Wynwood of Madison West, has been an assisted living community for almost 30 years, offering 48 apartments in a two-story building. The first phase of the project, completed last year, included a new building for assisted living residents. These 67 upscale studio-plus and one and two bedroom accommodations are significantly larger and are accompanied by abundant amenities, such as a two-story foyer, elegant dining area, pub/café, chapel, spa, beauty salon, arts and crafts areas and numerous patios including an outdoor fireplace. There is also a dedicated area for therapy services.
In the project's second segment, the current two-story assisted living building was updated and renovated to serve people with Alzheimer's. Two dementia care programs are now housed in this part of the community. One will seek to slow the progression of the disease for those in its initial stage through a program called Clare Bridge Crossings. Brookdale, as the nation's largest dementia care and senior living provider, developed Clare Bridge Crossings based on the newest research showing that specially designed mental, social and physical engagement can potentially delay dementia's advance.
The other program, known as Clare Bridge, will provide individualized care and purposeful daily living for people whose Alzheimer's has moved beyond the early phase. Clare Bridge Crossings and Clare Bridge each offer 20 apartments in a secured environment.
