Now in its fifth year, the awards program honors communities dedicated to improving their overall sustainability through environmental, economic, and social solutions. Riverside, along with Jersey City, New Jersey and Santa Monica, California will represent this year's midsized category finalists.
"In Riverside, we see sustainability as more than a program or a destination but as a way of life that is integrated with economic success and inherent in quality of life," said Riverside's Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge. "We are honored to be recognized as a finalist by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Siemens Corporation for our sustainability accomplishments, and we are delighted to share our best practices with other cities through the Sustainable Community Awards program."
Riverside is committed to actively promoting environmentally responsible living alternatives to its citizens, and has implemented a number of plans and practices citywide that have helped to create a more stable place to live and work in.
Three finalists were selected for the Sustainable Community Award's small, midsized, and large community categories from a pool of 135 applications, which were judged by a panel of the country's top sustainability experts.
Winners in each category will be announced on April 17, at the BCLC's National Conference in Atlanta, GA.
