RMT Recognized for Safety Achievements

MADISON, Wis., April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- RMT, Inc. (RMT), a renewable energy engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor specializing in the design and construction of wind and solar energy generating facilities, is being recognized by the Safety Council of the Ozarks with two prestigious awards:

• Les Reynolds Million Hour Award. Established to honor Les Reynolds, founder of the Safety Council of the Ozarks, this award recognizes companies who have exemplary safety programs and have achieved at least one million hours without a lost-work incident, and that the Safety Council deems deserving. RMT is one of three companies—out of the 34 who applied—receiving this honor this year.
• Ozarks Regional Safety Award. This award is presented to those companies that strive to provide a culture of safety at their workplace. The criteria for the award are based on the Total Case Injury and Illness Rate (TCIIR) and Days Away Restriction Transfer (DART). RMT is being recognized as the top company in its category (based on number of employees) for having the largest percent difference between RMT's internal record and the industry average (industrial construction).

Because of the risks involved in constructing utility-scale wind energy and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, RMT institutes strict safety guidelines, conducts mandatory safety training and job site analyses, and requires daily safety activities to make sure that staff thinks about safety before performing any work.

RMT was involved in the design, engineering, and construction of approximately 1,100 MW of renewable energy during 2011, and closed out the year with an industry-leading safety record. RMT and its subcontractors worked over 2.4 million hours in 2011 without a single lost-time incident. The company's Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) came in at 0.64, considerably lower than the 2010 industry average of 3.8.
