Roberto's Mexican Food in Del Mar Re-Opens over a Month after a Car Drove into Their Kitchen

DEL MAR, Calif., May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Roberto's Mexican Food at 2206 Carmel Valley Road in Del Mar had a real surprise on March 30, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. when a car drove right into their kitchen. Forced to close, the owners, Rolando and Cecilia Robledo, were just thankful no employees or customers were seriously hurt.

Roberto's Mexican Food in Del Mar is the busiest of Cecilia and Rolando's locations so reopening ASAP has been a top priority. Roberto's Del Mar first opened in 1982 to an overwhelming welcome from the community. Over 30 years later, that hasn't changed.

Roberto's is a regular routine for many Del Mar locals stopping by daily for updates and telling anyone who will listen about their love for the Carne Asada Burrito. Famous for its view of the lagoon, many Del Mar guests proclaim they come for a $5 burrito and a million dollar view.     

Roberto and Dolores Robledo started Roberto's in 1964. It originally opened as a tortilla factory and went on to serve a limited menu. From the beginning Roberto's made a commitment to deliver "fresh, authentic, simple food made from quality ingredients and served in satisfying portions at a modest price." That commitment still stands today and is the cornerstone of Roberto's' success.  Today Roberto's also known as the original "Mexican Taco Shop" has become a strong community icon in the north coastal areas of San Diego. Rolando and Cecilia opened their first Roberto's in 1981 in Solana Beach. They now own seven of over one hundred family run Roberto's locations throughout the southwest.   

Roberto's Del Mar will re-open for business May 9^th. "We are really excited about the re-opening and we are going to celebrate. Closing has been hard on everyone, especially the employees. They are eager to get back to work," said Cecilia. She goes on to say, "In addition to necessary repairs from the accident, we took care of some other repairs to improve the building overall. We also took this time for employee training in several areas, guest service always being most important."

Roberto's re-opening will be celebrated with discounts for everyone Thursday, May 9^th thru Saturday May 11^th.  They will also give away t-shirts, hats and free food vouchers randomly throughout the three days in celebration.
