Roche Bros. Go Green For Children's Program Celebrates 5 Years!
Shoppers Give Back with over 1 Million Green Nickels to Boston Children's Hospital
WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass., April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ever since Roche Bros. decided to launch their Go Green recyclable bag initiative over 5 years ago, they have taken Boston Children's Hospital along. Each year, since 2008, the 18-store supermarket chain has given a five-cent rebate every time shoppers use their recyclable grocery bag.
While many retailers allow shoppers to pocket the rebate, Roche Bros. gives their customers another, more charitable option: donate it to Boston Children's Hospital.
"Those nickels add up," said Janet O'Connor, director of community relations at Roche Bros. "Our Go Green for Children's Program has raised over $180,000 through bag rebate donations alone. Our customers are as dedicated as we are to giving back to our local community, and especially to the children. We are thankful for the efforts and support of our employees and dedicated shoppers."
Together with the annual NSTAR Walk for Children's sponsorship and cookbook program partnership with Children's, the Roche Bros. community efforts have raised nearly $300,000 for Boston Children's Hospital.
In just this past year from April 2012 to March 30, 2013, the Go Green for Children's donation program raised over $50,000. That's over 1 million nickels! The Roche Bros. Millis store came in as the top fundraiser of all store locations, with local shoppers generously donating close to $7,000.
Roche Bros. executives will be presenting this year's check donation to Boston Children's Hospital on April 23rd at 10 a.m.
Participating Roche Bros. stores can be found at www.rochebros.com and customers can participate in the 2013 program by remembering to bring their recyclable bags on their next shopping trip.
Roche Bros. also invites customers to join them for the Walk for Children's event on Sunday, June 9th.
