Rodney Dangerfield Nominated For Best Celebrity/Fan Site By Webby Awards And Receives Official Honoree Distinction
Rodney Dangerfield's New Website Gets Ultimate Respect By Webby Awards
LOS ANGELES, April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- "If it weren't for pickpockets, I'd have no sex life at all." – Rodney Dangerfield. Iconic comedian Rodney Dangerfield is finally getting some well-deserved respect. Rodney is one of five nominees whose website is competing for the prestigious international Webby Award in the Celebrity/Fan category. He will have to duke it out against such notables as Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye West, and Mario Batali.
And that's not all. Rodney's site (rodney.com) is also an "Official Honoree," a distinction awarded for work exhibiting remarkable achievement, in Webby's Best Navigation/Structure category.
"We are honored to receive this prized recognition in the digital space," said Joan Dangerfield, who is the creative force behind the site which launched last November on Rodney's 92nd birthday. The site was developed by Shine United in Madison, Wisconsin.
A Webby Award is considered the Internet's highest honor, much like a Grammy or Oscar. Winners are chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a global organization whose newest members include Tumblr founder David Karp, Huffington Post Media Group President Arianna Huffington, Skype CEO Tony Bates, mobile-phone inventor Martin Cooper, and creator of the GIF file format, Steve Wilhite.
As a Webby Award Nominee, rodney.com is also eligible to win a People's Voice Award. The public can cast their votes by visiting "The 18th Annual Webby Awards People's Voice" site [http://pv.webbyawards.com/2014/web/general-website/celebrityfan]. Voting is open now until April 24.
The Webby nominations came on the heels of the "Win Rodney's Ride" sweepstakes where visitors of rodney.com competed for Rodney's 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood. The winner will be announced later this month.
Rodney was a cyberspace pioneer who became the first celebrity to have a personally owned website in March 1995. The newly launched rodney.com features a novel design that navigates sleekly on today's mobile devices and showcases a treasure trove of Rodney's unique brand of humor, including shareable audio of his most recognized one-liners as well as never-before-seen exclusive selections from Joan's personal archive, "The Collected Papers of Rodney Dangerfield." New selections from the archive will be added to the site on a regular basis.
