Rosie Award Nominated Director announces apocalyptic short zombie film with a love triangle twist

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - Canadian film director Richard Kenyon ("Insomniac"), an AMPIA Rosie Award nominee, is announcing the forthcoming short horror film, "Dead to Me," now in post-production. The film has been accepted to premiere at Calgary Horror Con in August and is eyeing an international horror festival run this fall.

The premise is being kept under wraps, but the story centers on a love triangle set during a zombie apocalypse.

"It isn't like the traditional horror films," Kenyon said. "There's a lot more in the subtext and the character-driven relationships. I love working with actors. I understand what actors need. We had a great crew. The combination of that and the sensibility of the story and really creating something, that was exciting. It's writing right in my alley."

The script is by Dr. Andrew Loman, an English literature professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

"We had many conversations about how to translate the script to the screen," Loman said. "Richard carefully rehearsed with his actors and generously invited me to discuss their characters with them. I'm confident that the completed film will be lean, smart and devastating."

LuAnne R. Morrow and Kent Speakman executive produced the film.

Starring are Cheryl Kroeker ("Cool Runnings"), Stefan Rasporich ("The Christmas Blunder"), Mabelle Carvajal ("Hiding"), and Riley Kenyon, Cherie Nicole and James Cowley as the zombie ensemble.

Mike Shields ("Tucker & Dale vs. Evil") is composing the original music score and Ian Lister ("In Your Orbit") handled cinematography.

Known for the AMPIA Rosie Award nominated shorts "Insomniac" and "Pason Systems," Kenyon has directed the video short, "Sait" and for the TV show, "Korath, Bahamian Snowboarder." He's directed many commercials and theater productions such as "Julius Caesar," "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Othello" for theater companies he co-founded - Shakespeare in the Mountains and The Shakespeare Company.

Kenyon is also now in development on "Branded," a horror feature he wrote and will direct. It's a horrific journey of discovery into a family's dark and violent history and a bloody battle of life and death with a twisted behemoth that terrorizes them.
