Ross Chapin Brings Pocket Neighborhoods Home to the Midwest at Inglenook
Architect Ross Chapin brings his award-winning designs home to the Midwest at Inglenook, a pocket neighborhood of 27 cottage style homes in Carmel, IN
CARMEL, Ind., Jan. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Award-winning architect Ross Chapin has brought his concept of pocket neighborhoods to his native Midwest at Inglenook, a pocket neighborhood of 27 new cottage style homes in Carmel, IN. He has designed six floor plans for the community, which is being developed by Casey Land of Land Development & Building.
"From my experience of growing up in Minnesota, I learned fundamental values of neighborliness. A friendly wave, eye contact, a nod and a hello. These gestures engender a sense belonging, comfort, and community," say Ross, author of Pocket Neighborhoods: Creating Small Scale Community in a Large Scale World.
It's that Midwest lifestyle that helped to inspire pocket neighborhoods, a concept that Ross Chapin has been championing for 15 years. The inspiration is built into each home at Inglenook, where personal privacy is balanced with a sense of community through design.
"For years builders have focused on providing privacy by building bigger homes on bigger lots. However, privacy is more a matter of design than distance. We pay close attention to how the homes relate with one another, so that neighbors are not peering at each other. Privacy is built in," says Chapin.
The homes at Inglenook feature spacious front porches to promote a more community-friendly lifestyle, a place for friendly chats with passersby or an impromptu potluck with friends.
Inglenook features two and three bedroom homes ranging from approximately 1,060 to 2,176 square feet. Prices start in the low to mid $200,000's. Inglenook is located in Carmel, IN, which was ranked as the 14th best city to live in by CNN Money Magazine in 2010.
