Ross Mason Joins Patients for Fair Compensation National Advisory Board
ATLANTA, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Patients for Fair Compensation, a nonprofit seeking to introduce a patients' compensation system to states across the nation, announced today that Ross Mason has joined its national advisory board. Mason is the founder of the Healthcare Institution for Neuro-Recovery and Innovation (HINRI) and former Chairman of the Georgia Department of Community Health Board.

Originally from Madison, Georgia, Mason became passionate about healthcare after volunteering at an AIDS hospital in Zambia the summer of 1999. In 2004, he created HINRI, which provides venture philanthropy to early-stage nonprofits. He also serves as a Senior Fellow at the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.
"Ross is working tirelessly to make Georgia a national and global leader in health innovation," said Patients for Fair Compensation (PFC) Chairman, Richard L. Jackson. "We are very excited he sees how our efforts to replace our broken medical liability system with a no-blame patients' compensation system are aligned with that vision."
"I am excited to support PFC's efforts to bring a Patients' Compensation System (PCS) to our states," said Mason. "Spending almost eight years on the Department of Community Health Board, the last two as Chairman, I have seen how difficult it is to control the rising Medicaid and state health benefits costs. PCS offers the opportunity to save states, like Georgia, billions of dollars by eliminating unnecessary costs due to lawsuit-driven medicine."
Patients for Fair Compensation is currently working with Georgia legislators to introduce the new system. On February 8, 2013, state Sen. Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) introduced Senate Bill 141, the "Patient Injury Act," which would replace the state's current medical litigation system with a no-blame, administrative compensation system intended to reduce healthcare costs.
