Run for Your Lives Launches Sweepstakes for *Free Funerals in Exchange for Website URL on Tombstones
Creators of zombie-infested 5K eyes tombstones to reach target audience
BALTIMORE, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nowadays, you can't go to the restroom without being hit in the face with an advertisement. And, most recently, advertising space is now actually being sold on people's faces. So with half of its target audience being zombies, or esteemed members of the undead, Reed Street Productions, creators of the zombie-infested 5K adventure race, Run for Your Lives, announced today through an ad in the Wall Street Journal that it's launching a sweepstakes to provide three future members of the undead a *free funeral in exchange for placing the race's URL on their tombstones.
"We're always looking for new and creative ways to market to our target audiences, which varies greatly – from running enthusiasts, zombie-loving gamers, and of course zombies," said Derrick Smith, managing member of Reed Street Productions and co-creator of Run For Your Lives. "Everyone else markets to the living, so we thought why not market to the undead through deadvertising."
Nowadays, a typical funeral costs an average of $5,000. This *sweepstakes aims to ease the burden of future costs, and also offers winners free registration and participation to any and all future Run For Your Lives races. Run For Your Lives launched its first race outside of Baltimore, Md. in October 2011, with more than 10,000 participants, spectators, and zombies. This year, there are more than a dozen races in locations near major cities across the country.
Prize money to cover future *funeral costs total $5,000, and will be provided to winners up front. Interested individuals should visit www.runforyourlives.com/funeral and fill out the entry form, and three winners will be selected at random on June 1 – just in time for the next Run For Your Lives race in Millville, Minn.
*Not so discreet, but necessary disclaimer: Consent to tombstone inscription not necessary to enter or win. The $5,000 cash award may be put toward your funeral expenses. It may not cover the entire cost of your funeral.
About Run For Your Lives
Run For Your Lives is the brainchild of Reed Street Productions, a Maryland-based limited liability company formed in February 2011. Run For Your Lives launched on Oct. 22 in Darlington, Md., and attracted more than 10,000 participants and spectators. In 2012, Reed Street took the race national, launching in more than a dozen locations in cities across the U.S. including Atlanta, Boston, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Denver, Seattle/Portland, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Southern California, Baltimore, Orlando and Austin. Each race takes participants through a series of manmade and natural obstacles over a 5K zombie-infested course. Racers, wearing a flag football-like belt with three flags, must make strategic choices to find the quickest route to the finish line with at least one flag remaining to complete the race as a survivor. Survivors and newly-created "zombies" – those who finish without flags – are able to celebrate at the Apocalypse Party, a post-race event that features live and local entertainment, music, vendors, food, beverages, and of course, zombies.
