With 400 participants the first year in 2008, the 5K race expanded to two new cities and had more than 2,500 participants in 2011. The RLAM race will now give women in Boston; Dallas; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Boise, Idaho; Charlotte, N.C.; Washington, D.C.; Bellevue, Wash.; and Sacramento, Calif., in addition to returning races in Ridgefield, Conn.; Chicagoland; and Portland, Ore., a chance to be a part of the experience.
"RLAM is more than a race; it is our way of life," says Megan. "We have grown the RLAM community from Ridgefield, Conn., to Naperville, Ill., and Portland, Ore., in 2011 and the online community to more than 10,000 Facebook followers. By expanding the race to these new cities in 2012, more fans will be able to experience the magic of the day and what Run Like a Mother is about."
Searfoss, a certified personal trainer, a nationally ranked Ironman athlete and an avid runner, has made racing a part of her life, yet began running only 15 years ago. She has created a walk/run program that encourages women of all abilities to incorporate running into their lives.
Ridgefield, Conn., resident, Jane Lindenburg has been a dedicated supporter of Run Like a Mother from the beginning. "In four short years, Megan has turned Main Street in Ridgefield, Conn., into a special place of love, sweat and pride on Mother's Day morning," says Lindenburg. "Many of these women had hopes of recapturing their former fit selves, running their very first race or walking the route with a child, mother, sister or friend."
Early bird race registration opens January 1, 2012. Five percent of the race registration fee will be donated to charities that benefit each local community.
