R.W. Pressprich & Co. Announces Two Large 2010 Donations to The Boys Club of New York and Food Banks Nationwide
NEW YORK, Jan. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- R.W. Pressprich & Co., an independent fixed income and equity broker-dealer headquartered in New York, announced two year-end 2010 charitable donations, including: $150,000 to The Boys Club of New York (BCNY), a youth-serving organization founded in 1876 that helps thousands of boys develop into quality young men; and $50,000 to Food Banks around the country.
R.W. Pressprich & Co. was founded by Reginald W. Pressprich in 1909 in New York. Then headquartered at 36 Nassau Street, the original firm was a bond underwriter and secondary marketing firm specializing in railroad and municipal finance. Its first underwriting, noteworthy in 1909 for its size, raised $10 million to upgrade and maintain the Erie Canal. Throughout its history, the firm has established a strong tradition of charitable giving and it is now an important part of the company's culture.
BCNY focuses on helping at-risk boys of New York City grow up into mature, successful young men. The organization was founded with the goal of getting inner-city boys off the streets of the Lower East Side and into a place where they would be safe, learn better manners, and engage in more productive activities. While the core mission of providing a safe haven from the streets has remained constant, the vision and range of programs have expanded dramatically to an organization that encourages boys and young men to seek the highest standards of scholarship, moral development, and physical achievement. Today, BCNY serves nearly 4,000 boys annually with three full-service clubhouses – Harriman on Manhattan's Lower East Side, Elbridge T. Gerry, Jr. in East Harlem, and the Marion McMahon Abbe in Flushing, Queens. For over 135 years, BCNY has positively influenced the lives of nearly a million young men.
"The donation to BCNY represents a real and tangible way of helping young boys realize their dreams. There can be no better investment in our children's future than that," said Edward Rappa, CEO of R.W. Pressprich & Co.
R.W. Pressprich's $50,000 gift to Food Banks across the country is given to help relieve the serious problem of food insecurity in the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 50.1 million Americans - including more than 17 million children - lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis (Household Food Security in the United States, 2009, published in November 2010.)
"We were pleased to make this gift to help relieve the serious problem of food insecurity," said Edward Rappa, CEO of R.W. Pressprich & Co. "It is important for us to try to help, particularly during the holidays," he added.
