WARRENDALE, Pa., June 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Through a corporate gift of $250,000 from John Deere, SAE International announces its new "John Deere/SAE International AWIM Learn Twice Initiative."
The Learn Twice Initiative uses the award-winning SAE International A World In Motion® curriculum to help provide a memorable learning experience for K-12 students and university students. The initiative provides university students with an opportunity to teach and advise younger learners on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts like force, friction, and motion and allows them to gain a better understanding of how these concepts are integrated and applied to their own studies.
How the program works is that university students involved in SAE International's Collegiate Design Series (CDS) agree to work with local elementary and high school teachers to teach the STEM concepts through the AWIM curriculum. In return for their volunteer service, the university team's CDS registration fee is reimbursed. Additionally, the initiative enables university students to give back to their local community and meet community service hours that an increasing number of universities require for graduation.
The program begins this fall when registration begins for CDS events.
"The 'John Deere/SAE International AWIM Learn Twice Initiative' is corporate and academic partnership at its finest," Matthew Miller, Director, SAE Foundation & Pre-College Programs, said. "Elementary and high school students learn the importance of science and math skills and university students learn the importance and satisfaction of helping others to learn. I want to thank John Deere for their generous donation; they have proven to be a leader in education."
