Salient Federal Solutions Awarded Contract for IPv6 Transition Project Supporting the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC)
Bringing Industry Best IPv6 Experience, Processes, and Solutions to Partner with DTIC in Their IPv6 Enterprise Implementation
FAIRFAX, Va., Dec. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Salient Federal Solutions, Inc. (Salient), a leading provider of information technology, engineering, and intelligence analytic services to agencies in the intelligence, defense, homeland security, cyber security, and federal civilian markets, today announced receiving a subcontract from the Chickasaw Advisory Service, LLC (CAS, LLC) that will support efforts at the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC).
Salient will provide the technical expertise needed to plan and implement DTIC's network wide IPv6 transition project. DTIC serves the Department of Defense (DoD) community as the largest central resource for DoD and government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today. DTIC's mission statement is to provide essential, technical research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) information rapidly, accurately and reliably to support DoD customers' needs. As part of DTIC's mission to support the information needs of the DoD community, DTIC develops and hosts Web sites for both DoD and ASD (R&E) components including the ASD (R&E) homepage, Federal Voting Assistance Program, Pentagon Force Protection Agency and Defense Libraries. DTIC's collections contain over 4 million documents including technical reports, research in progress and Independent Research and Development (IR&D) summaries. DTIC also publishes searchable Congressional budget data shortly after its release from Congress. DTIC acquires approximately 25,000 new documents each year.
This one-year transition project will be completed in four phases. Phase 1 will include discovery and high-level planning to clearly define what benefits and impacts an IPv6 network means to DTIC. Phase 2 consists of the architect, design, implementation, and operation of the IPv6 network. The Security Authorization and Agreement (SAA) process also occurs during this phase. Phase 3 is the final IPv6 implementation where IPv6 routing and switching will be enabled. Phase 4 covers the design, testing, refinement, and enablement of IPv6 on the internal network in compliance with the 2014 OMB mandate. Salient will provide the support required to complete the accreditation process for the internal network as well as the certified instructors to ensure DTIC is fully trained and equipped to support and secure next generation networks. Salient's cyber security professionals bring deep IPv6 experience and knowledge of the provider and government environments, and are experts in the latest certification and accreditation programs.
"We are proud to be able to support DTIC in its mission to enable the ongoing, critical IT services of the DoD," says Bill Parker, COO of Salient. "We pride ourselves in providing the best, most effective, lowest-risk plans to our current and future customers."
The work will be performed by members of Salient's Cyber Security Center of Excellence in collaboration with Salient's Software and Systems Engineering Solutions (SSES) business unit, which employs rapid integration of mission needs, Agile Scrum Software Development approach within a disciplined CMMI Level 3 environment and an agile approach to program management.
