SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mummies of the World is pleased to announce that it experienced the most successful exhibit opening to date at The Leonardo museum in Salt Lake City. The exhibition debuted on Saturday, Feb. 16, and more than 7,000 people attended the exhibit over the Presidents Day Weekend.

"We are thrilled with the exhibition's opening weekend record-breaking success in Salt Lake City," said Marc Corwin, president of American Exhibitions, Inc. "The milestones we continue to achieve are proof positive that real mummies intrigue the general public and are a dynamic draw for science and history museums alike. We are pleased to see that the exhibition continues to draw blockbuster crowds and unbelievable buzz in every market we travel to."

The Leonardo hosted an exclusive VIP Event on February 15, where more than 800 guests attended including museum members and supporters, key state and city officials. Local business leaders and exhibition representatives were on-hand to celebrate the opening of the national blockbuster exhibition.

"I'm not surprised that our market set a record," said Alexandra Hesse, executive director at The Leonardo. "The people of Utah are highly educated, and deeply value cultural experiences. Mummies of the World is an incredible opportunity for families, friends and school groups to learn about both the past, and current science and technology in ways they will never forget. The Leonardo is so honored to be able to bring this opportunity to our state, and to the region."

Mummies of the World is the largest exhibition of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, featuring an astounding collection of 150 real human and animal mummies, and related artifacts from South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Ancient Egypt.
