San Antonio Private School Principal Sued
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The head of San Antonio Country Day Montessori School has been sued for Civil Conspiracy in the unauthorized use of the identity and copyrighted materials of the Montessori Model UN (MMUN) program. Damages sought are in excess of $100,000.
MMUN is a global, not for profit organization that trains teachers and students in the United Nations Global Citizenship program, and which utilizes proprietary and copyrighted materials in its activities, which include classroom training and international conferences. In this effort, MMUN collaborates with the United Nations Department of Public Information. MMUN holds Conferences at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC, at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Italy, the ex-Congress Building in Santiago, Chile, and has trained students and teachers in the United Arab Emirates in preparation for an MMUN International Conference in the UAE.
The lawsuit charges that the principal conspired with others to utilize the corporate identity and materials of MMUN, including its website and other copyrighted materials to entice corporate sponsors that include HSBC and Emirates Global Aluminum to pay a similarly named, for-profit corporation, sponsorship fees for providing similar services to that of MMUN. The lawsuit alleges that while the principal was trained by MMUN, she was not authorized to use MMUN's website and other copyrighted materials to engage in a scheme to collect what is estimated to be more than $100,000 in sponsorship and other fees, and causing significant damage to the MMUN brand and operations.
