Wells Fargo Managing Director and Senior Economist Mark Vitner will present the national, state, county and north county regional economic outlook. BW Research President Josh Williams will provide the Regional Opportunities in a Post-Recession Economy, that will focus on North County's economy and the drivers of its economic vitality. Registration is http://ncsummit2015.eventbrite.com.
San Diego North Economic Development Council (SDNEDC) is hosting the Summit, in partnership with presenting sponsor Wells Fargo. Gene Cubbison, NBC 7 San Diego, will emcee.
The program will include two panel discussions:
The first, Dirt & Dollars: Land & Capital for North County's Industry Clusters, will be moderated by Nels Jensen, editor-in-chief, San Diego Business Journal and will include:
- Matt Weaver, principal, Lee & Associates;
- Peter Quinn, broker, McKinney Advisory Group;
- Russ Valone II, president, MarketPointe Realty;
- Michael McDonald, principal, North City; and
- Rita Brandin, senior vice president, Newland Communities.
The North County region has become one of the most sought after areas for companies to relocate. Panelists will discuss growth and opportunities, housing and transit demands, and challenges to attracting industries.
The second panel, Developing Tomorrow's Talent & Education in our Innovation Economy, will be moderated by Alison St. John, North County editor, KPBS, and will include:
- Melinda Del Toro, vice president, ViaSat;
- Renato Alesiani, CEO, WaveCrest Hotels & Resorts;
- Dr. Michael Alston, senior staff engineer, Qualcomm;
- Tom Capizzi, executive vice president, DJO Global,
- Dr. Sunita Cooke, president, MiraCosta College; and
- Dr. James Hamerly, professor, College of Business, California State University at San Marcos.
According to Williams, "The world of work is evolving and is often changing faster than our education and training providers can effectively respond. Recent findings for San Diego County's priority sectors indicate that in many of the fastest sectors, over half of employers are having a least some difficulty finding qualified job applicants in a relatively loose labor market, and that this could get considerably worse as more workers retire and the regional employment picture improves."
Tickets are $75, and breakfast, $60K in economic reports on a thumb drive, exhibit booths and a printed report summary. For information visit www.sdnedc.org or call 760-510-3179.
SDNEDC is a 501 (c) (6) nonprofit organization, whose purpose is to sustain and strategically grow the North San Diego County's economic base, comprising four sub-areas north of the 56 Freeway: 78 Corridor cities, Coastal cities, I-15 Corridor cities & unincorporated areas, and Camp Pendleton & the Tribal Sovereign Lands.
