BETHESDA, Md., July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The SANS Institute today announced the Cyber Defense Summit taking place in Nashville, TN August 19 – 20. In conjunction with the Summit SANS will also host an intensive hands-on information security training event August 13 – 18. This event marks the first time that SANS will conduct a training event and Summit that brings together cyber defense practitioners focused on defensive tactics as opposed to offensive approaches to thwart cyber attackers and prevent intrusions.
"As cyber threats become increasingly more complex, traditional security measures no longer work. Because we are dealing with advanced adversaries, a new approach to security is needed," said Dr. Eric Cole, head of the SANS Institute's Cyber Defense training programs and SANS Faculty Fellow. "While not all attacks can be prevented, by complementing prevention techniques with robust detection, organizations can minimize the impact of a breach. SANS' Cyber Defense Summit provides a unique opportunity to hear from top security experts as they share effective solutions for building a defensible network to protect against today's most complex threats."
The summit brings together some of the industry's top cyber security experts as they share real-life success stories and essential defensive skills and techniques needed to protect and secure an organization. Agenda highlights of the Summit include:
- Prevent, Detect, Respond: A Framework for Effective Cyber Defense
- Think Like the Bad Guys: Emerging Threats and How to Thwart Them
- Taking Control: Using the Critical Security Controls as a Blueprint
- Will the Real Next Generation Security Please Stand Up?
- Developing Cyber Threat Intelligence
