Santa Monica-Based Child Success Center Helps Parents And Pre-School Age Children To Better Prepare For Kindergarten
SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- This summer, families across Los Angeles will be preparing their young children to make the transition from pre-school to kindergarten – and during this time, parents often wonder whether their child is really ready to enter this more academic school setting. It is estimated that anywhere between 20 and 50 percent of children in the U.S. slated to enter kindergarten during the 2012 fall season are unprepared to meet the rigors of this enhanced educational environment. And kids who are unprepared (emotionally, socially or academically) can develop self-confidence and esteem hurdles that affect later schooling.
Santa Monica-based Child Success Center (CSC), one of the premier child development learning centers in Los Angeles specializing in educational, occupational and speech/language therapy, can offer a beacon of clarity for parents who may be struggling to ensure that their young child is adequately prepared to make the kindergarten "leap."
Child Success Center's flagship 2012 Summer Kindergarten Camp, which children attend every week day from July 9th – August 10th, combines adventure, learning, fun activities and social play to provide children with an awareness of the kindergarten routine and the confidence to enter a more academic classroom setting, especially if they are coming from a strong play-based pre-school discipline. The Center's "Get Set for Kindergarten" six-month immersion program, which children attend once per week, also focuses on pre-reading and writing skills to help pre-schoolers enhance early handwriting and reading readiness.
In addition to these programs, which offer kids an extra "leg-up" headed into kindergarten, CSC also offers a Kindergarten Readiness Evaluation Session for parents questioning whether their child is ready to enter a more academic classroom or whether they would benefit from "transitional kindergarten," a program offered by the State of California for children with November birthdays.
"The fundamental kindergarten year is a period during which many children will profoundly shape and impact their future role as a student," explained Melissa Idelson, director of CSC. "Especially for parents with children on the younger end of the age eligibility spectrum, our preparedness programs help kids to develop the right tools and foundation to enter kindergarten and establish an essential zest for learning for the many important schooling years that follow."
