Santa Teresa High School Marching Band Uses Crowdfunding for New Uniforms

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Santa Teresa High School Marching Band needs new uniforms. The ones the band currently has are outdated and don't fit the students anymore. The old uniforms do not represent the band as a school. The new uniforms are sleek with a modern design that reflects who the marching band is now, and they were fitted for the correct sizes of the students. The band director, Julie Bounds, says, "The current marching band uniforms do not reflect or represent the program we have today. I started to realize something about my own students after being here for a year or two. My students are proud to be in the Santa Teresa Band program, but they are not proud to wear their uniforms."

The band has received a generous outpouring of support from its community, school district, grants, and even Santa Teresa High School itself. They only need $6,000 more to be able to make the last payment on the uniforms. In the past week, they have received over $2,000 to their campaign. With more than a month left, they are anticipating that this could blow up into something even bigger than just a uniform drive. The marching band plans to announce stretch goals as they get closer to their goal that will include money for new instruments, instrument repair, and new purchases of equipment for the marching band that have been badly needed for years.

The Santa Teresa High School Marching Band has some great perks for its donors. You can be a band member for a day and travel with the band to see what it is like to go to a competition with them. You can get VIP seats for one of the band's competitions or have your name sewn into one of the new uniforms. At lower levels, you can get a ST Band T-Shirt or a shout out at one of their competitions.
