LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sarano Kelley, the widely respected author, business guru and performance coach to the industry's top financial advisors, is making financial services professionals an offer he hopes they can't refuse. Mr. Kelley, rated the "number one speaker" at the Securities Industry Association at the Wharton School of Business for several consecutive years, will be donating his expertise as a motivational speaker and coach over the course of the next year, without charging his usual substantial speaking fees. This generous donation will serve as the "launchpad" for a concerted effort to rally support for Mr. Kelley's upcoming launch of the Stand Up for Financial Literacy campaign, by getting industry firms and individuals to commit their time and resources to going into the nation's classrooms.

In return, Mr. Kelley urges beneficiaries to volunteer their own services to Stand Up for Financial Literacy, his nationwide campaign to teach high school students basic money-management concepts and skills. Mr. Kelley's offer is available until April 2015, when he will roll out the campaign as part of Financial Literacy Month.

A 2010 study by the National Endowment for Financial Education found that fewer than 20 percent of high school teachers feel prepared to teach financial literacy, although nearly 90 percent of teachers believe it is a subject that students should be taught.  Stand Up for Financial Literacy is the first industry-wide program promoting business acumen to young people and will team up a financial professional with an athlete or celebrity to speak with students at a high school in their community. Volunteers will deliver a financial literacy curriculum developed either by their own firm or by a financial industry organization such as the United States Treasury or the FDIC. Program components may include budgeting, spending, taxation, savings risk management and investments. With several hundred advisors already committed, the campaign's goal is to have each of the nation's 30,000 high schools linked to a financial literacy program by 2020.
