SarkissianMason Mobile Innovation Work Grant to Anti-Trafficking Non-profit FAIR Girls
NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SarkissianMason, known for digital innovation in both the worlds of commerce and nonprofit, has awarded FAIR Girls (http://www.fairgirls.org) a $100,000 in kind grant to build a mobile-social platform to fight sex trafficking in the United States. The agency announced the grant last January after putting out a submissions call to non-profits working in the anti-trafficking space.
FAIR Girls was selected as the grant recipient due to founder Andrea Powell's aggressive stance against the issue; the breadth of the organization's programming, which spans from rescue to recovery; and the organization's willingness to work with regional partners. Powell is a frequent commentator on sex trafficking, calling attention to the fact that the majority of U.S.-based sex trafficking takes place online.
Long considered a problem overseas, the trafficking issue has recently become more of a focal point at home in the U.S., in part due to the work of FAIR Girls and other like-minded organizations, even prompting recent actions by President Obama.
Inherent to the project being developed by SarkissianMason and FAIR Girls is a veil of secrecy on the specific details of its use but, speaking generally, it will be a communications tool that will be used to connect and educate the growing community of girls suffering at the hands of traffickers. The two companies are currently meeting with potential media partners with the ability to house the platform.
SarkissianMason Founder and CEO Patrick Sarkissian noted, "There is an alarming amount of trafficking in the U.S. Offering this service grant is a way to work closely on the issue and to create a technology-based product that will have major impact on the ground in those cities where this problem is most acute."
The agency is not new to pioneering digital innovations for the social good. Last year, they received much praise for creatively combining video projection and text-message billing to help the charity Pathways to Housing increase funding on behalf of the homeless.
On working with SarkissianMason, Andrea Powell said, "With FAIR Girls, I have made it our mission to rid the world of the abhorrent practice of sex trafficking. In SarkissianMason, I have found a technologically advanced and morally sound partner willing to join me in that task."
