Saspro Files Lawsuit Alleging Patent Infringement by Outokumpu
HELSINKI, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Saspro Oy has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Outokumpu in Helsinki. The lawsuit alleges infringement of Saspro patent FI 108527 B related to rolling, annealing and pickling.
Saspro claims that the invention is being utilized in Outokumpu Tornio RAP5-process having significant improvements and increased productivity due to use of the patented technology.
The lawsuit seeks to enjoin Outokumpu from using the patented technology invented by Sami Suokas and recover damages caused by the infringement. Saspro also seeks preliminary injunction to stop the core processes at Outokumpu Tornio works.
"We were looking for a very reasonable royalty for the invention, but Outokumpu did not want to negotiate with us and now we have started the legal procedure. It is difficult to understand why they chose the risk of stopping of their core processes, when at that stage they could have easily done a deal with us. Now we have taken a stronger position on the issue and we'll let the court decide what is fair and if they can continue manufacturing" says the inventor Sami Suokas.
Saspro is a Finnish R&D company seeking to serve the steel industry globally.
